Welcome!
Who are FIDN?
Fife Independent Disability Network is a disability-led
organisation who are a registered charity. We work to improve access to
services and equality of opportunity for all disabled people in Fife.
Members from all over Fife come together every two months to discuss disability issues, raise concerns and decide on courses of action to take. Individual members are also involved in a number of consultative groups, generally with statutory organisations such as the NHS and Fife Council. We also produce a quarterly newsletter. What does FIDN do?
Please click on our links and have a look around the site. FIDN mission statement: "Striving to include people with disabilities
in decision making and working towards
inclusion of disabled people in all aspects of
society in Fife"
Definition of the Social Model of Disability:
go to top of page
"A person is disabled by society. This
model re-defines disability as a social construction. It is the social,
economic, attitudinal and political barriers to disabled peoples' independence
and inclusion which disables them. This view empowers disabled people
because it recognises that their exclusion is caused by society not their
individual impairments."
